Shasta County is located in the northern portion of California. The county occupies the northern reaches of the Sacramento Valley, with portions extending into the southern reaches of the Cascade Range.
Among the tourist attractions in Shasta County are Shasta Lake, Lassen Peak, Whiskeytown Lake, and the Sundial Bridge.
The University of California Cooperative Extension Office is the public service and applied research division of the University of California. It has agriculture, natural resource, 4-H, and nutrition, family, and consumer science programs in Shasta County with one office located in Redding and an adjunct office located in McArthur. UCCE Shasta County addresses critical issues such as rangeland management and forest productions, water quality, food safety, childhood obesity, wildfire, oak woodland management, integrated pest management and new agricultural industries such as wild rice, mint, and wine grapes.
